Shortie Socks (Two lesson course)
If you thought that knitting socks was just too hard, this series of workshops is for you whether you’re a beginner sock knitter or an experienced knitter. Learn all you need to know to create cuff-down socks for the whole family. A delicious home-baked afternoon tea plus ongoing support is included.
Please note: This is not a beginner’s knitting course. You must be able to knit and purl comfortably as well as being able to do “long tail cast on” easily
This course is taught over two 3.5-hour lessons in store
Date: Saturdays, June 5 and 12
Time: 1.00 – 4.30pm (please arrive at 12.45pm for a 1.00pm start)
**Circular needles with Magic Loop technique are used in this workshop. Other methods will be discussed.
All materials to complete a pair of shortie socks (either small, medium or large) are included in this workshop. You will have enough sock yarn left over to knit a second pair of socks with a small cuff, or a child’s pair of socks (a free pattern for children’s socks is included in this workshop – you’re welcome!)
- Following a sock pattern (terms used in sock knitting)
- Anatomy of a sock
- How to measure your foot and make socks for anyone
- Knitting cuff down socks
- Heel, flap and gusset
- Kitchener stitch
- Weaving in ends
- How to change the size of your socks
- Option of square, round toes
- Ongoing sock knitting support via email or phone
- 1 x 100g skein of hand dyed sock yarn (please select your preferred colourway from the yarn skeins pictured and leave the colourway name in the Comments section of your order)
- A set of 2.5mm circular Chiagoo knitting needles
- Stitch markers
- the basic sock pattern
- 3.5 hours of guidance per class from our experienced teacher
Total cost: $150. (You also receive a 10% discount on any purchases made in store on the day)

YOUR TEACHER: Linda (Lu) Douglas is a mixed media artist who knits every day, has a few (unmentioned) works in progress and a nice stash! Knitting is a place of relaxation but it’s also an exciting space to design and create garments, accessories and toys. Linda loves both tradition and innovation and sharing her passion by teaching brings great pleasure. It’s a way to empower others and brings a sense of community. Linda travels all over the country teaching workshops in mixed media, printmaking and clay.
Terms and conditions: Classes can be booked online or in-store. There is a limited number of spaces in the class but we can add your name to a waiting list if a cancellation becomes available. Full payment is required when booking to confirm your space.
Minimum numbers: All classes require a minimum of four people in order for it to go ahead. If your class does not have the minimum number of students, the class will be postponed and you will be notified within two days of the class date of the cancellation or change of date. We are not liable for any additional costs incurred if your class is postponed or cancelled. If your class is postponed or cancelled you can either transfer the amount paid to another class, use as a store credit or be issued a full refund. If you need to cancel, swap or postpone your attendance at a class, you can do so up to 7 days prior to the scheduled class date to receive a full refund. Less than 7 days notice, we cannot guarantee a full refund unless another booking fills your space. Once a class has started, we cannot provide a refund.
